The Salesian Polytechnic University (UPS \u2013 Ecuador), as the organizing institution; the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO Ecuador) and the Private Technical University of Loja (UTPL), as co-organizing institutions; in conjunction with the Network of Communication Researchers (RISE) and the research groups GICODEPO, GICEA, and GIDITECI, invite the national and international academic community to participate in the 1st International Interdisciplinary Congress of Social Sciences (CIICIS) 2026. CICIIS 2026 is the first edition of the International Interdisciplinary Congress of Social Sciences.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The congress was created as a new international academic initiative aimed at strengthening interdisciplinary dialogue between social sciences, communication, technology, governance, culture and digital innovation.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

La Universidad Polit\u00e9cnica Salesiana (UPS) es una instituci\u00f3n de educaci\u00f3n superior de inspiraci\u00f3n cristiana y salesiana, comprometida con la formaci\u00f3n integral de profesionales y con la transformaci\u00f3n social a trav\u00e9s de la educaci\u00f3n, la investigaci\u00f3n, la innovaci\u00f3n y la vinculaci\u00f3n con la sociedad.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Historia<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

La presencia de la comunidad salesiana en Ecuador se remonta a 1888, a\u00f1o en que los Salesianos de Don Bosco llegaron al pa\u00eds con una misi\u00f3n centrada en la educaci\u00f3n, la formaci\u00f3n de j\u00f3venes y el servicio a la sociedad. Esta trayectoria educativa constituye uno de los principales antecedentes de la Universidad Polit\u00e9cnica Salesiana.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

El 5 de agosto de 1994, mediante la Ley N.\u00ba 63, publicada en el Registro Oficial N.\u00ba 499, se cre\u00f3 oficialmente la Universidad Polit\u00e9cnica Salesiana. En octubre del mismo a\u00f1o iniciaron sus actividades acad\u00e9micas, con Cuenca como sede matriz y presencia universitaria en Quito.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Desde sus inicios, la UPS asumi\u00f3 el compromiso de ofrecer una educaci\u00f3n de calidad, orientada a la formaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica, t\u00e9cnica, human\u00edstica y \u00e9tica de sus estudiantes. Su propuesta educativa est\u00e1 inspirada en el Sistema Preventivo de Don Bosco y busca contribuir al desarrollo de una sociedad m\u00e1s justa, solidaria y equitativa.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

A lo largo de sus m\u00e1s de tres d\u00e9cadas de trayectoria, la Universidad ha experimentado un importante crecimiento acad\u00e9mico e institucional, ampliando su oferta educativa, fortaleciendo sus procesos de investigaci\u00f3n y consolidando proyectos de vinculaci\u00f3n con la sociedad.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Actualmente, la Universidad Polit\u00e9cnica Salesiana cuenta con presencia en las ciudades de Cuenca, Quito y Guayaquil, adem\u00e1s de desarrollar su propuesta acad\u00e9mica mediante diferentes modalidades de estudio.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

La sede Cuenca constituye la sede matriz de la Universidad Polit\u00e9cnica Salesiana. Desde la creaci\u00f3n de la instituci\u00f3n ha desempe\u00f1ado un papel fundamental en su desarrollo acad\u00e9mico e institucional, fortaleciendo \u00e1reas de formaci\u00f3n, investigaci\u00f3n, innovaci\u00f3n y vinculaci\u00f3n con la sociedad.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Sede Quito<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

La sede Quito forma parte del proyecto universitario salesiano desde los inicios de la UPS. Su crecimiento ha permitido consolidar una amplia propuesta acad\u00e9mica y fortalecer la investigaci\u00f3n, la vinculaci\u00f3n y la presencia de la Universidad en la capital del Ecuador.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Sede Guayaquil<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

La sede Guayaquil fue creada en 1998, ampliando la presencia de la Universidad Polit\u00e9cnica Salesiana hacia la regi\u00f3n Costa. Desde entonces, ha desarrollado una propuesta acad\u00e9mica orientada a las necesidades de la sociedad y al fortalecimiento de la formaci\u00f3n profesional.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

En 2026, la Universidad Polit\u00e9cnica Salesiana cumple 32 a\u00f1os de trayectoria universitaria, respaldados por una tradici\u00f3n educativa salesiana que supera los 130 a\u00f1os de presencia en Ecuador.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Durante este tiempo, la UPS se ha consolidado como una instituci\u00f3n comprometida con la educaci\u00f3n superior, la investigaci\u00f3n, la innovaci\u00f3n, la responsabilidad social y la formaci\u00f3n integral de sus estudiantes.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The Salesian presence in the university field is relatively new, except for the educational experiences in India in 1934 and the Pontifical Salesian University in Turin, which has been training Salesians in higher education since 1940, initially as the Pontifical Salesian Athenaeum and since 1973 as a University based in Rome.<\/span><\/p>\n

Currently there are 35 Salesian Provinces with responsibility for Higher Education, which implies a high and sustained growth of the Salesian university offering in the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

The new demands of Youth Ministry led the Salesian Society to open itself to the upper stratum of youth, determined by a principle of educational continuity that requires an extension of educational accompaniment beyond the period of adolescence and with a desire to offer an opportunity of access to the University to many young people in inferior economic and social conditions and as a privileged place for vocational guidance in the broad and specific sense.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/details>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

The Salesian Polytechnic University (UPS) was created by Law No. 63, issued by the National Congress and published in the Official Gazette Supplement No. 499 on August 5, 1994. UPS is a private, non-profit institution, co-financed with state funds, with its own legal personality and responsible autonomy in academic, administrative, financial, and organizational matters. UPS was founded during a very critical period from a social and economic perspective. Once the project to create the University was approved, the Salesian Society of Ecuador began operations at the new Center for Higher Education in October 1994. Prior to this, on September 6, 1994, the first University Council was established, and the Rector and Vice-Rector took office. Its main campus is located in the city of Cuenca, with branch campuses in the cities of Quito and Guayaquil.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Salesian Polytechnic University (UPS), as a center of higher education, is aware of the major educational problems facing the country, such as:<\/span><\/p>\n

          \u00a0The objectives of the Salesian Polytechnic University are:\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          a) Generate spaces for preferential attention to young people and adults from popular sectors, groups with disabilities, indigenous peoples and Afro-Ecuadorians.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          c) Implement processes that ensure co-governance and gender parity in the university management system.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          d) To promote a Pastoral Educational Proposal as a suitable space for dialogue between Reason, Faith and Culture.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          e) Promote student-centered learning models, guided by the principles of Salesian education.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          f) To offer third and fourth level academic programs, approved by the Council of Higher Education, for continuing education, community engagement and research processes, cultural dissemination and respect for the environment, with high quality standards to respond to the needs and problems of Ecuadorian society.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          g) Guarantee freedom of conscience, freedom of teaching, academic freedom and thought, equal opportunities and non-discrimination.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          For the past 20 years, Salesian universities have been emerging rapidly across different continents, each with its own distinct characteristics. It was then that Don Bosco's eighth successor, Don Juan Edmundo Vecchi Monti (1995-2002), emphasized the need for the General Directorate of the Salesian Congregation to accompany and guide these newly developing university institutions. Following this development and after several meetings worldwide, on January 7, 2003, the Rector Major of the Salesians, Don Pascual Ch\u00e1vez Villanueva, and his Council, in plenary session, unanimously approved the documents \"Identity of Salesian Institutions of Higher Education\" and \"Policies for the Salesian Presence in Higher Education.\" These documents now serve as the Congregation's roadmap for these institutions and are integral to the projects of the Salesian Provinces in the various countries where the Salesians are present.
